Spring 2013 Newsletter: What Kind of Leader Are You?
It’s our business to make headlines for our clients, but we’re flattered to make our own news every now and then: In our just-published spring 2013 newsletter, Megan discusses her leadership style on MindJet.com and Carolyn talks shop with the Public Relations Society of America. What Kind of Leader Are You?
As part of its series aimed at helping leaders “work smarter and more effectively,” Mindjet.com interviewed Canary founder and president Megan Wendell on what makes her want to be a cheerleader for her staff. “I realized quickly that a huge key to success is hiring really smart, creative people. And the key to getting the best out of those people is to empower them and trust them.”
The Philadelphia chapter of the Public Relations Society of America publishes a “Fresh Faces” column in its newsletter, and Canary PR associate Carolyn Huckabay popped up in a recent issue to talk shop. Here’s what she had to say about working in PR: “I love being part of the direct correlation between effective communication and long-term vitality. When our clients succeed, we succeed, too.”

· Canary clients are all over this New York Post travel article. On the Philly to-do list: The Mural and the Mint’s iPhone app/interactive musical experience for Rittenhouse Square, the Philadelphia Art Alliance and FringeArts’ contemporary arts center to open in the fall.
· FringeArts also made headlines with the groundbreaking of their new permanent home, rebranding and move toward year round programming, as reported by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
· The Philadelphia Inquirer profiled artist Lee Ann Etzold and took a look at the 43 winners who will receive over $2 million as part of the 2013 Knight Arts Challenge.
· The Huffington Post raved about Lantern Theater Company’s production of Henry Vand talked with artist Tacita Deanabout her film installation at Arcadia University Art Gallery. Dean’s project was covered in numerous national arts outlets, including ArtForum.
· Hidden City Philadelphiatook notice of Asian Arts Initiative’s upcoming Pearl Street Project in Chinatown North.

We’ve launched a comprehensive communications campaign around Puppet Festival (r)Evolution, the 2013 National Festival of the Puppeteers of America. Save the dates: August 5-10at Swarthmore College.
In mid-June, Megan will head west for the 2013 Americans for the Arts Convention, as a member of the marketing committee. The convention runs June 14 – 16 in Pittsburgh. Register by May 31to lock in the best rate.
We’re thrilled to announce our newest client, The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. Like so many others, we’ve been great admirers of Mural Arts and the amazing work they do. We’ll be working with them on some exciting public art projects you’ll be hearing about very soon. Stay tuned!
